El Dia Del Los Niños/El Dia De Los Libros — Children’s Day/Book Day is April 30. Celebrate with Casa QC and the Moline Public Library by participating in our contests. Coloring contests are available for those in pre-school through 2nd grade. Essay, poster and pinata contests are also available. Prizes will be awarded. | Casa Mentoring Program in QC Schools
The renowned Logan Square Neighborhood Association “Parent Mentor” program, highlighted in the Today Show “Education Nation” program and subject of three books, is expanding across Illinois. With a grant of $1 million from the Illinois State Board of Education the Parent Mentor program will expand to 44 schools in 13 communities across Illinois, including Chicago, Aurora, Moline, East Moline, Niles, Bolingbrook, and Bridgeview. Children Find Direction Through Martial Art
Kids age 6–12 are invited to participate in Shorinji Kempo, a Japanese martial art that teaches discipline and honor. Classes are held on Monday and Wednesday evenings for kids and adults. Jeff Cruz and Chris Cacari volunteer as instructors to lead the program which is held at Casa Studios, 1527 6 Ave, Moline. Speaking two languages rather than just one has obvious practical benefits in an increasingly globalized world. But in recent years, scientists have begun to show that the advantages of bilingualism are even more fundamental than being able to converse with a wider range of people.
Thanks to everyone who attended Dia de los Muertos on November 2. Nearly 300 attended the event which featured La Catrina and alters commemorating lost loved ones.
