Becoming a Foster Care Family

Foster care can be a very rewarding experience. There are times when children must be placed temporarily outside of their own homes. It may be due to abuse, neglect, or other family problems. Whenever possible, the goal is to reunite the children with their parent(s). If this becomes impossible, the children may be placed for adoption.

The licensing agency for foster care is the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). The licensing and training process can take from four to six months and you will receive guidance throughout the process.

Foster parents receive support from the Department of Children and Family Services. Some types of support are:

  • Financial assistance
  • Medical care for the foster child
  • Education services
  • Personal support (respite care)

Casa Guanajuato can help you on the path of becoming a foster parent. Call us at 309–736-7727 for more information.
